I had never heard of Bear Lake until a few weeks ago when Eric said we would stop there on our way south through Utah. When I googled it, it seemed like a small town without much to do...and an hour from the closest grocery store, again. I wasn't particularly excited about it until Eric told me that we were going to be staying at a spa site. A spa site?? It turns out that the Bear Lake KOA is one of just a few that offer campsites with their own private hot tubs. Well, then! This sounded like a pretty good spot to spend the week...and it was! It was by far the best campsite we've had on this trip. Not only did it have the hot tub under a pergola, it had a large grassy area for the boys and Piper to play in. It also had a patio, grill, and fire pit. And...there was a brand new grocery store right next door! We could just relax and never have to leave town.
On top of all of that, the weather couldn't have been better. RVers often talk about "chasing 70" - planning their travels so that they are always in 70-degree weather. We seem to have hit that sweet spot and hopefully we will remain in it for the next few weeks. Fall has been settling in and the leaves became more colorful as the week progressed.
Bear Lake itself is very pretty too. We took a drive one evening and found a sign stating that this area was part of the original Oregon Trail! We didn't venture out anywhere else, but it was nice to have a relaxing week just hanging around the campsite. Throughout this trip, we've found ourselves in an unintentional pattern of alternating busy sightseeing weeks with quiet ones. It's a good opportunity to rest and regroup before we move on to a more exciting destination.
As we left Bear Lake and headed into higher elevations on the way to our next stop, the colors were even more vibrant. So pretty!
We'll be hanging out in Salt Lake City for a few days while Eric is at a conference in Denver. This will be our last urban location before we head to more rural parts for the next couple of weeks, so I'll be meal planning and stocking up on groceries while I can!
